“I normally refuse to join in campaigns but this seemed so important, and the ‘safety’ covers so absurd and dangerous, that I agreed” Author, TV presenter & Patron of FatallyFlawed Dr Adam Hart-Davis
“Sockets in the UK are designed to keep people safe. Our UK design has been better than the majority of other countries, for many years. Socket covers are an absolute con and totally unnecessary.” Engineering, Maths and Science presenter on TV FatallyFlawed Supporter Johnny Ball

Welcome to our video page. We are campaigning for proper regulation of the sale of socket covers.
If you arrived here directly from another site, or an email link, please make sure to take a look at some of our other pages. You will find lots of information about the dangers of socket covers, and about us, FatallyFlawed.
The first video was made by FatallyFlawed to demonstrate some of the problems and dangers of socket covers which are discussed on this site.
This is a video made by FatallyFlawed to demonstrate some of the specific dangers of socket covers made by Clippasafe. It includes information which was not available when we made our main video above.
The following videos have been found on YouTube, they help to illustrate the problem of children removing covers. The producers of these videos have no connection with FatallyFlawed.
”Luca and the Plug Socket” shows just how easy it can be for a child of 11 months to remove a socket cover. Video posted to YouTube in July 2009.
”Lindam baby safety electrical plug socket put to the 11 month old test.” shows Teddy, another child of the same age as Luca, removing TWO socket covers in quick succession. Video posted to YouTube in November 2016.
“Toddlers show exactly how UNSAFE electrical socket covers really are!!!” An electrician demonstrates, with the aid of his own children, how easy it is for small children to remove socket covers, and why that matters. Video posted to YouTube in November 2017.
When this video was shared on Facebook it received more than 2,000,000 hits! There was widespread newspaper and TV coverage, including this ITV report.
“Joey is a socket cover ninja!” also shows how easy it is for a child to remove a socket cover. Joey’s parents have told us that he was 7 months old at the time, note how determined Joey is! Having removed the cover he puts in in his mouth, imagine what might happen if he succeeded in putting back the wet cover! The cover in this case is an American socket cover, but the underlying message of how easy covers can be to remove is equally valid. Video posted to YouTube in June 2008.
Do YOU still think “safety socket covers” are a good idea?
The bottom line is: Safety is designed into UK sockets - plug in covers reduce safety!
